Nikki and Dean Exton, along with their children, took over Downhouse Farm in 1991. They moved over to organic farming in 2001.

The farm is set on 500 acres of National Trust land and forms part of the Golden Cap estate. The land runs along a stretch of the Jurassic coastline from Eype to Seatown. There are outstanding views, from Portland in the east and along the Devon coast in the west, and notably from Thorncombe Beacon, the highest point on the farm at 155 metres above sea level. Many footpaths cross the farmland, offering stunning views along the coast and inland over the Dorset landscape.

The farm is managed under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme to protect plants and wildlife, and to educate people in the ways of traditional organic farming and conservation. There is a lecture room used by groups of children from local schools, and by other special interest groups.
